Martin is a Professor of Theatre Arts/Technical Theatre at Cosumnes River College (CRC) in Sacramento, CA and a freelance scenic designer. Originally from the small town of Almond, New York, Martin moved west thirty years ago stopping in Wyoming for almost a decade before arriving in California in 2001. Martin has been the scenic designer for over 120 theatrical productions, mainly in Northern California, also with credits in New Jersey, Indiana, and Shanghai where his design for Bay Area Children’s Theatre’s “James and the Giant Peach: The Musical” was staged at the Shanghai Children’s Art Theatre . Though no longer working in architecture Martin still loves to design small houses and has recently completed 2 in the Philippines. In addition to his position at CRC, Martin has served as a technical director at Chabot College, Napa Valley College, and Bay Area Children’s Theatre (B.A.C.T.) where he was the resident scenic designer for a span of 40 shows. Martin also served as the Scenic Associate at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco for 3 seasons from 2007-2010 where he had the pleasure of working with the legendary Carey Perloff and TONY Award winner John Doyle, among others.
Martin received an M.F.A. in Dramatic Arts- Scenic Design from the University of California at Davis in 2007, a Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University in 1992, and an A.A.S. in Architectural Engineering Technology from the State University of New York at Alfred in 1988.
